Eldon man accused of stabbing man during fight

An Eldon man was arrested and charged after he allegedly stabbed someone while arguing about money.

Eldon police responded to the 500 block of Vernon Drive on Friday evening in response to two men fighting with baseball bats, according to court documents filed in Miller County Circuit Court. When police arrived, they found Gregory Abbett holding a milk jug full of ice to a stab wound on his abdomen. Abbett told police that Steven M. Degraffenreid had stabbed him after the two were arguing about money, documents said.

Abbett told police that while the two men were arguing, Degraffenreid went to his car, grabbed a baseball bat and chased him around with it. Degraffenreid then picked up a knife from his car and stabbed Abbett with it, court documents said.

Abbett’s wife also said she saw Degraffenreid stab her husband. She said Degraffenreid then left the scene shortly after, court documents said.

Degraffenreid was arrested on Monday. He’s charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
