Work on Columbia parking garages continues

Work on the Plaza Parking Garage began Monday.

The work on the garage will take place in three phases, and drivers will not be able to utilize hourly parking during the project.

Crews will be sealing the top floor of the garage to prevent water damage, repairing cracks and sealing expansion joints.

The purchase order for the project was $319,020. The work on the Plaza Parking Garage is scheduled to be completed by early November.

This is one of several projects on downtown parking garages in recent months.

In March, crews wrapped cables around panels on the side of the parking garage at Fifth and Walnut to prevent them from shifting any further. Those cables were still wrapped around the garage on Monday.

City Council also approved a project to install cameras at the entrances and exits of all six downtown garages. That project was expected to cost $250,000.

The city also currently has plans to install gate arms on each garage by September 30.
