Jefferson City’s Salute to America begins

Salute to America event coordinator Penny Smith said the festival was set to welcome visitors on its first day Wednesday.

The two-day festival kicked off Wednesday morning. First-day events include a parade and opening ceremony followed by a concert. A full day of events is scheduled on the Fourth of July culminating with fireworks after dark.

Smith said she expects heavy attendance despite the cleanup from a May tornado and recent Missouri River flooding.

More Salute to America information is available on the festival’s website.
