Two arrested in connection with Columbia shooting
The Columbia Police Department arrested two people on Tuesday in connection with a double shooting in Columbia.
Lajavion A. Redden, 19, of Ashland, was arrested and charged with of two counts of first-degree assault causing serious physical injury and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the shooting, according to court documents.
Rashad M. Ingram was also arrested on suspicion of tampering with evidence after police said he was concealing evidence related to the case.
Police responded to Anita Court for a call of multiple shots fired at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday and blocked part of nearby Walnut Street during the investigation.
First responders found two people injured, including one in a shed, said CPD spokesman Jeff Pitts. The injured people were communicating with officers when they were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Pitts said.
Court documents said police found a car in the grass with a shattered window, cartridge casings, broken glass and bullets. Documents also said officers found blood and a blood trail, which went up the stairs to apartment 22. Police found blood in the apartment as well as a strong smell of marijuana.
A witness said Redden, who was also known as “Young Taco,” was at apartment 12 before the shooting, court documents said. The witness said her apartment is apartment 22, and two people were at her apartment at the time. She told police one of the men in her apartment did not like Redden.
The second man was inside apartment 22 when he heard gunshots, court documents said. The second man said he went out to help the first man and was shot by Redden.
Authorities were able to locate Redden at a residence in the 8000 block of North Chesley Drive on Tuesday, where he was taken into custody with the assistance with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

Redden is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond. He previously pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and stealing in a 2017 case and pleaded guilty to dealing marijuana in a 2018 case.
