Jefferson City buffet cited for 20 health violations

Cole County health inspectors found a litany of violations in their May evaluation of Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet.

The restaurant, located at 730 W. Stadium Blvd. in Jefferson City, was cited for 20 violations of the food code, including 14 core violations and six of the more-serious priority violations.

A “strong sewer gas odor” emitting from the women’s employee restroom, a lack of hair restraints worn by employees and no hand washing were some of the violations listed in the initial report on May 2.

That report also said that the restaurant’s manager was “unable to demonstrate knowledge of the food code, food temperatures or a written cleaning and sanitizing list.”

When inspectors returned five days later to perform a follow-up inspection, they found that the restaurant staff failed to correct four of the violations cited in the first inspection.

A second follow-up inspection on May 9 yielded two remaining violations.

A restaurant employee referred questions from ABC 17 News to a manager, who was not available Wednesday. The employee took down a message, but a manager did not immediately return the call.
