Roads around New Franklin close again due to flooding

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed several roads near New Franklin and Boonville for a second time due to flooding.

Highway 5 and Highway 87 are closed just outside of New Franklin. Highway 5 is a common route for residents to get to and from Boonville.

According to the MoDOT traveler map, Highway 40 remains closed as well.

The road closures are adding significant travel time for those who work outside of New Franklin.

Justin Begemann lives in New Franklin but works in Malta Bend, Mo.

“It’s causing a lot of problems,” Begemann said. “It takes me an extra hour now to get back and forth to work.”

He hopes the roads open again faster than the first time they closed.

“I’ve been looking at the flood stage guage and I don’t know, I think they said it’s supposed to kind of get high and stay around until Friday and then start going back down. So, hopefully it doesn’t stay long,” he said.

During the week several multi-agency resource centers will open where the Missouri Attorney General’s Office will help those displaced due to flooding or tornadoes.

The centers will be opening at different times and days.
