Man who shot back at assailant pleads guilty to illegally possessing gun
A Columbia man who fired back when someone shot at him in February pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to illegally possessing a firearm.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Missouri, Victor Seth Kee, 20, admitted to being a felon when having a gun.
According to court documents, an unknown person in a white van fired shots at Kee and two other people as they were walking through a parking lot in front of Mari’s convenience store at 1210 E. Prathersville Road, around 10 a.m. on Feb. 2. Security footage shows Kee pulling a handgun from his pants pocket and firing back. He and the two people he was walking with then got into a car and left.
Around 10 minutes later, according to the press release, an officer conducted a traffic stop of their vehicle near Bold Venture and Derby Ridge, taking four occupants into custody. While searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded HK 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, which had been reported stolen.
Under federal law, it’s illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Kee has prior felony convictions for tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, burglary and assault.
