Missouri River expected to rise this week

Flooding continues as the Missouri River is expected to rise this week. The river was at 26.87 feet Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service

The weather service forecasts the river will crest at 31.5 feet in Jefferson City on Wednesday.

The Jefferson City Public Works Action Plan for Missouri River flood events reports the following areas will begin flooding at 31 feet:

Missouri Boulevard near West McCarty Street West Miller Street at Broadway Majority of Lot 25 near West Miller and Washington Streets Most of the Jefferson City Memorial Airport Ice arena parking lot Most of north Jefferson City

Public Works crews worked last week to clean the runways at the airport, which were covered in more than 5 feet of floodwaters earlier this month.

Jefferson City Public Works Director Britt Smith told ABC 17 News on Friday that the city was waiting to set a date to reopen the airport due to concern about the river rising this week.
