MoDOT reopens Missouri River Bridge in Boonville
Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation reopened the Missouri River Bridge north of Boonville on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials closed the bridge due to flooding June 3.
Crews also opened Route 87 north of Boonville, but Routes 5 and 40 north of the bridge are still closed.
Officials said those areas will remain closed until they are no longer covered and crews can clean up debris and assess potential damage to the road.
Mike Schupp, a MoDOT engineer says its team has been on the ground laying rock to repair the side of 87 that has been damaged to build back that natural slope off the side of the highway.
MoDOT is also fixing flood and road damage on secondary roads that people are using “since the secondary routes were not built to handle that high amounts of traffic, says Schupp.
Schupp says they will move the barricades from the Route 40 Missouri River Bridge north to Highway 40 because there are a couple feet of water still on that route.
According to the MoDOT traveler map, 210 roads are still closed due to flooding across the state, as of Tuesday afternoon.
