Jefferson City Memorial Airport cleanup efforts underway
Crews worked to clean out hangars at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport on Tuesday as floodwaters receded.
The airport began flooding more than three weeks ago and was covered in more than 5 feet of floodwater in some places while the Missouri River was in a major flood stage.
Nicholas Haill, a line manager at Jefferson City Flying Service, said crews will work to power-wash mud that the flooding left behind.
The Jefferson City Flying Service office will need repairs.

“We’re ripping out all the drywall and two-by-fours,” Haill said. “All the way down to bare nothing and then we’re gonna start from scratch.”
Jefferson City Public Works Director Britt Smith said crews are working to get mud off of the runway as floodwaters go down but parts of the runway remain underwater. ‘
Haill said the goal is to begin small operations at the airport next week. Full-time operations can start once the entire runway is back open and all electrical work is complete.
