Jefferson City mayor discusses tornado aftermath, flooding

Amid widespread tornado damage and a sustained major flood stage in the Missouri River, Jefferson City mayor Carrie Tergin spoke with ABC 17 News Monday morning about the status of the city’s response.

Tergin said the timeline of the infrastructure recovery is not yet known but that it is being evaluated daily.

The mayor also told ABC 17 News the focus of city resources is split between the current major flood stage and mitigation of tornado damage.

Tergin commended the utility workers, law enforcement and volunteers for the progress made so far in clearing debris and restoring power to thousands of residents.

Jefferson City’s leader also issued a call to residents of her city and the state of Missouri to ‘stay strong’ and ‘help each other.”

ABC 17 News will continue to cover the flooding on the Missouri River and the aftermath of the destructive mid-Missouri tornado. Continue to check this website for updates.
