Woman gets life sentence for Holts Summit murder

A woman accused of killing David Grant, 67, of Holts Summit last year pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Monday.

Amy Steward was originally charged with first-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance but pleaded guilty to lesser charges on Monday, including armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm in addition to second-degree murder.

According to court documents, Steward called 911 to report Grant’s death in April 2018. She told Callaway County deputies that she returned home from a friend’s house to find Grant dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

However, Steward’s story did not match up to what her friend told police.

Steward received a life sentence for second-degree murder, 10 years for armed criminal action and five years for unlawful possession of a firearm.
