Trial date set in Cole County double homicide case

A Cole County judge set a trial date Tuesday for a man accused in a double homicide case.

Brandon Rapier, accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend in 2016, will stand trial starting Sept. 21. The trial is scheduled to last through Oct. 9.

Rapier is accused of killing Ciera Kolb, 27, and Micah Hall, 27, in the 100 block of Grant Street on Nov. 9, 2016. The two had serious wounds when police arrived and later died.

The jury will be selected from Clay County, outside of Kansas City. The defense has asked the court to pay for child care for the jurors.

Judge Patricia Joyce said the court will set aside money to pay for child care, but will not provide child care services for the jurors.

The defense also filed a motion to bar the state from bringing in victim impact evidence, including family testimonies from the two victims’ family members. They argued it is redundant and unfair. Joyce will look into the motion and make a decision later.
