Firefighters work structure fire in Jefferson City

UPDATE: Officials with the Jefferson City Fire Department said the fire was contained to the basement of the home in the 1100 block of Major Drive.

One person was home at the time, but no one was injured, officials said. Hoewever, a family pet died.

According to a news release, a working smoke detector had alerted the family of the fire.

The family will be displaced and is working with Red Cross, officials said.

ORIGINAL: Firefighters are working a structure fire in Jefferson City, according to a Facebook post by the Jefferson City Fire Department.

The post said the fire was on Major Drive and asked people to stay clear of the area.

Police currently have Major Drive blocked.
