Severe storm & flooding risk overnight into Tuesday morning

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect starting this evening through Thursday morning with an active weather pattern setting up again into this week. Rainfall totals could exceed 3″-5″ within the next 7 days.

THIS AFTERNOON: We look to remain dry into this afternoon as cloudy cover from a departing area of rainfall has kept us from warming too quickly this afternoon. However, as more sunshine builds in from the west, instability will increase across the region. An approaching frontal boundary will be the focus for rain and thunderstorms to increase overnight.

TONIGHT: Storms will increase in coverage from NW to SE through 8 & 9pm. These storms look to last well into the overnight hours, through the Tuesday morning commute. With already saturated soils, heavy rainfall tonight is likely to lead to flash flooding in spots for the Tuesday morning commute. Be mindful you may need to adjust your route in the morning!

EXTENDED: Storm coverage looks to break up into Tuesday afternoon, but another round of rain looks to arrive late Tuesday evening. Storms are not expected to be severe at that point, but more flooding is possible. By Wednesday, we’re tracking a stronger upper level wave which will bring a risk for severe storms including large hail and strong winds. Flooding will continue to be an issue into Wednesday. We look to finally start drying out into the weekend.
