Moberly police arrest man who hid from officers in pond

Officers with the Moberly Police Department arrested a man with active warrants after a pursuit Friday night.

Officers responded to a home in Allendale Manor Housing Complex around 7:30 p.m. to try to find Christopher Smith, who had two active felony warrants, according to a news release.

Officials said an officer watched Smith run from the back of the home and officers began to chase him on foot.

According to the release, Smith ran into a wooded area. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to help with the search.

Authorities found Smith hiding in a pond around 8:45 p.m., police said. Smith got out of the water and was taken into custody without further incident, officials said.

According to the news release, an ambulance responded to evaluate Smith because he was submerged in the water for a while.

Police said Smith ran from Moberly officers two separate times in April and managed to get away from police.
