Two injured in head-on crash on Tom Bass Road

Two drivers were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a head-on collision between an empty gas tanker truck and a small car.

The crash happened around 6 a.m.Tuesday at the intersection of Tom Bass Road and East Deer Park Road near Highway 63 southbound. A crash report posted online by the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Joshua Prather, 27, of Columbia suffered minor injuries when he crossed the centerline in his 2013 Ford Focus and hit the tanker truck head-on. The truck driver, John Hawken, 63, of Tuscumbia had moderate injuries, the patrol said.

Both men were taken by ambulance to Columbia hospitals and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Boone County Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and crews had to extricate the driver from the car.
