Chase starts in Cooper County, ends near Columbia
A man was arrested Tuesday evening after leading Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers on a chase that started in Cooper County and ended west of Columbia.
Moises Bonilla-Mendez, 19, of Nashville, Tennessee, was arrested in connection with the chase.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott White said the chase on eastbound Interstate 70 started at mile marker 96 in Cooper County and ended after the vehicle troopers were chasing ran over spike strips at mile marker 117 in Boone County. The vehicle stopped in the median after hitting the strips, he said.
Troopers originally tried to pull Bonilla-Mendez over for speeding, White said. Bonilla-Mendez was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, possessing marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia, speeding, not having a valid driver’s license and traveling in the left lane without passing.
Police dogs were at the scene, and an ABC 17 News reporter saw Bonilla-Mendez being led to a cruiser in handcuffs. Traffic was backed up in the eastbound lanes as troopers and police investigated.
