Jefferson City police investigate homicide
Jefferson City police are investigating a homicide that took place early Saturday on Hickory Street.
In a news release, JCPD said it started receiving calls for shots fired just after 3 a.m. in the 300 block of Hickory Street. On the svene, officers found a 20-year-old Jefferson City man with a gunshot wound. Emergency crews transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officers said the initial investigation revealed a disturbance in the area that spilled into the streets. Several witness said multiple shots were fired in the area. No arrests have been made in the homicide.
Around the same time, officers tried to stop a 2004 Ford Explorer for failing to stop at a stop sign, according to the news release. The driver then failed to stop for emergency lights and officers engaged in a pursuit. The vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier in the nearby 800 block of Adams Street. Jefferson City police said charges are pending against the driver.
Police said they do not know if the two were connected and the investigation is ongoing.
