Columbia police arrest one after downtown shooting
Police arrested a Columbia man Saturday after he ran from police following several gunshots downtown.
Davion Gross, 21, was charged Saturday with two felonies: recieving stolen property and resisting arrest for a felony.
According to the probable cause statement by Columbia Police Department Officer Nicholas Boddie, officers heard about eight gunshots near East Broadway and North Fifth Street early Saturday. Police then saw a car drive away “at a high rate of speed.”
After the car was pulled over for a traffic stop, three people got out of the vehicle and ran, Boddie wrote. One was arrested and identified as Gross. Officers also found two guns in the car, one of which was a stolen rifle, Boddie wrote.
Police say Gross admitted to being in the car and to running because of the presence of police officers.
Gross has been previously jailed for stalking, domestic assault and stealing. The court set his bond at $50,000 cash-only.
