Indiana man arrested high-speed chase

An Indiana man is accused of nearly hitting an officer before attempting to flee from several different agencies over the course of a nearly 50-mile chase.

Officer Michael Watson of the St. James Police Department responded to reports of an argument in a McDonald’s parking lot Sunday evening. Jeremy Krug, 37, of Laffeyette, Indiana, was seen arguing with his girlfriend.

According to Watson’s probable cause statement, Krug gave police a false identity and refused to speak to Watson before driving away from the parking lot at high speed. Watson was next to Krug’s car and had to jump back to avoid being hit, according to the statement.

Krug drove from St. James in Phelps County to Westphalia in Osage County, according to the statement. Throughout the pursuit, Krug allegedly drove over 100 mph and traveled into oncoming traffic lanes several times on highways 68 and 63.

Spikes were successfully used on Krug’s vehicle on 63, south of Westphalia, by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, according to the statement.

Krug continued to drive on damaged tires and crashed, according to the statement.

Maries County and Osage County deputies assisted in the pursuit and the resulting arrest, according to the statement. Police said Osage deputies found drugs and paraphernalia in the car.

After the arrest, Krug was found to have no valid driver’s license, as well as a non-extraditable arrest warrant out of Indiana. Krug said he did not know about the warrant nor the drugs found in his car, according to the statement, and said he fled because he was “scared” of police.

Krug is charged in Phelps County with resisting arrest by fleeing, creating a substantial risk to any person, a felony.
