Crash report complete in Battle High School pedestrian crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit completed its work on Tuesday involving a 4-year-old struck and killed by a Columbia Police Department vehicle.

The unit sent its reconstruction of the incident to the Patrol Records division for review, according to patrol spokesman Sgt. Scott White. The case is seventh in the division’s queue for review, White said.

The patrol has been investigating the crash that killed 4-year-old Gabriella Curry on Jan. 4 outside Battle High School. Troopers said that Columbia police Officer Andria Heese struck the child when Heese turned left from the high school’s driveway onto the sidewalk just before dismissal. Heese was placed on administrative leave after the incident.

White did not know exactly how long the review would take. He called the crash investigation unit’s work “comprehensive” in reconstructing the circumstances of the deadly crash.
