Columbia man sentenced to 11 years in federal prison

A Columbia man is set to serve 11 years in federal prison after being sentenced Tuesday.

Vernon Jordan, of Columbia, was on supervised release from prison when officers found him with drugs and a gun. The judge sentenced Jordan to nine years in federal prison for illegal possession of heroin and a gun. He was given two additional years in prison for violating a supervised relase from prison.

Jordan pleaded to guilty to possessing heroin and being a felon in possession of a firearm earlier this year. Probation officers found more than 75 grams of heroin and a loaded handgun in his possession in 2017.

Jordan was on supervised release from prison when the drugs and gun were recovered. He pleaded guilty in 2015 on a separate case of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
