Airlines offer to refund or rebook canceled Columbia flights
United Airlines and American Airlines are offering to rebook or refund canceled flights at Columbia Regional Airport.
Regional carriers of the two airlines voiced concerns about the safety of a runway at COU Saturday evening. The city announced Monday that the runway is closed for a week starting Tuesday for emergency construction.
“They can either cancel their full itenerary and receive a full refund or they can rebook without any additional charge,” said American Airlines spokesperson Ross Feinstein.
He said an alternate airport, such as St. Louis Lambert International Airport, gives people the option to continue travelling into and out of Columbia.
A spokesperson from the airport in St. Louis said it’s reasonable to imagine people will choose the airport in St. Louis or Kansas City International Airport as an alterative flight option but exact booking numbers due to Columbia’s flight suspension aren’t available.
American Airlines flight arrivals at COU are expected to resume on the evening of April 15, according to an airline spokesperson’s email response to ABC 17 News.
A spokesperson from United Airlines also wrote in an email that the airline anticipates flight to COU TO resume the evening of Monday, April 15.
