Man gets minor injuries after crashing into utility pole in Jefferson City

A 57-year-old man got minor injuries Sunday morning after he suffered an apparent medical emergency and lost control of his car in the 1100 block of Madison Street.

According to Jefferson City police, Gary Clarkston had just turned onto Madison from US 54 when he lost control. He went off the left side of the road and hit a street sign.

He was able to briefly return to the road before running off again on the opposite side, hitting another street sign.

Police said Clarkston’s car continued going forward in a grassy area for almost 100 yards until it hit a utility pole, which fell across the roadway.

US 54 was closed for hours while crews repairs the pole.
