Ballenger Lane improvement work to start soon
Engineers discussed the Ballenger Lane improvement project Wednesday during a preconstruction meeting ahead of work starting in May, Columbia Public Works spokesman Barry Dalton said.
“The improvements on Ballenger will provide a safer path for non-motorized users by widening the pavement in order to provide a thoroughfare for pedestrians,” he said.
Improvements include 6-foot-wide shoulders on each side of Ballenger Lane, an asphalt overlay, connecting existing sidewalks from neighboring subdivisions and stormwater improvements.
Construction is expected to begin in May and take about 90 days to complete.
The Ballenger Lane improvement project is one of the city’s capital improvement program projects.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will contribute $1.8 million towards the estimated $2.2 million project.
