Another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms likely tonight… Flooding possible
***AREAL FLOOD WATCH STARTING AT 1 PM FOR PORTIONS OF MID-MISSOURI UNTIL 7 AM SATURDAY***
THIS AFTERNOON: We’re tracking some dry time early this afternoon, but as we head later into the day, we’re tracking increasing rain & thunderstorm chances from the west after 2pm. Some storms that track through could be strong to severe at times. The main threats would be large hail and heavy, blinding rain making travel difficult.
TONIGHT: Widespread rainfall will increase through midnight as the main boundary pivots through Mid-Missouri. This will bring heavy, training rainfall along and south of I-70 where the greatest concern for flooding is. 2-3″ of additional rain is possible and the threat for road flooding, especially in low-lying areas is very real overnight. Never try to cross a flooded roadway, but the threat is even more dangerous at night–turn around, don’t drown. As the front finally starts moving out, temperatures will begin to cool off and winds will pick up out of the north, gusting near 25 mph , creating wind chills in the low to mid 30s by the morning.
EXTENDED: Highs on Saturday will only manage to top out in the middle to upper 40s at Midnight with temperatures dropping into the 30s through the late morning hours. Morning rain showers can be expected… and as the upper level low pivots out, snow has a chance to mix in across Mid-MO between 10am and 3pm. No snow impacts expected at this time. These showers/snow showers will finally taper off into the afternoon and evening and we can start to dry out. Latest forecasts this morning have the Missouri River holding steady at 26 ‘ , in the moderate flood stage, throughout the weekend, as runoff rainwater moves into the river’s system. Sunshine looks to return Sunday, with temperatures pushing close to 50 in the afternoon. We start working back toward typical late March temperatures Monday and Tuesday, nearing 60.
