With rain back in the forecast a second crest is likely into next week

TONIGHT: After a dry and sunny day, a cold front will be approaching the area after 9 PM which could spark a shower or thunderstorm this evening and into the early morning. Most areas remain dry tonight with mild temperatures with a light southwesterly breeze. With clouds moving in, temperatures only drop into the low to mid 50s .

THURSDAY: Spot shower are possible for the morning commute, but the first half of the day looks to be mostly dry. As we head into the afternoon widespread rain will increase after 2 – 3 PM. Steady, moderate rain showers can be expected through much of the evening Thursday with heaviest downpours south of I-70.

EXTENDED: With ongoing rain chances into Friday, a few rumbles of thunder are expected by the afternoon. Rain will continue through the evening Friday and into Saturday morning. Lingering rain showers look possible south of I-70 for the first half of Saturday. When it’s all said and done, area wide , 1-2 ” of rain can be expected. Some localized areas may see 2″+. Rivers, which are already swollen in Mid-Missouri will hold steady at their minor to moderate flood stage, likely beginning to rise again into next week as upstream waters continue to filter in. Temperatures cool down this weekend, only topping out in the mid to upper 40s , but recover near 60 by Monday.
