Showers returning with a few rumbles of thunder expected this afternoon
SUNDAY: Starting off the day, we’ll be mostly dry outside of a few scattered light showers, that will be quick to move out this morning. As we head into the afternoon, showers and storms will reignite as a cold front moves through. There is a narrow window where we can see some of these thunderstorms become strong to even severe around 2-5 pm. The best chance at seeing a stronger thunderstorm resides south in the viewing area, closer toward I-44. The main threats will be hail and damaging straight-line winds, but a brief spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.
TONIGHT: The bulk of the moisture will move out with the front this evening, but a lingering shower is possible behind the front, as a high pressure system starts to dry us out. Winds overnight will turn out of the north, setting us up for a cooler day on Monday. Overnight lows will be chilly with that wind, dropping into the low 40s.
EXTENDED: Clouds will be moving out throughout the day on Monday, but temperatures will only manage to get back into the low 50s for highs. We start moving back toward more seasonal temperatures as sunshine returns Tuesday, topping out in the middle 50s, and continuing to warm Wednesday into the low to mid 60s. Our next system moves in Thursday in the form of a cold front, bringing rain chances to the end of the week. Be sure to check back with ABC 17 News on-air and online for the latest forecast updates.
