Mid-Missouri Business Week: Missouri ranked second in the nation for apprenticeship programs

A $3.6 million investment to develop and expand new registered apprenticeships across mid-Missouri has pushed the state to having the second-best apprenticeship program in the nation.

Mardy Leathers, the director of the Missouri Division of Workforce Development, said they have added nearly 2,000 apprentices across various fields. He said the program helps increase productivity, reduce turnovers and train enough skilled employees to lessen the gap when current employees begin retiring.

“We want to expand and grow,” Leathers said. “We did a deep data analysis and were awarded another $6.5 million and federal grant in order to continue to grow the sector.”
