Housing Authority seeks first reimbursement in Capitol Avenue renewal
Jefferson City’s finance committee discussed the reimbursement of more than $26,000 to the Jefferson City Housing Authority on Thursday.
The request was made by the JCHA after the sale of 608 E. State St. and represents the first time the city could dip in to the nearly $260,000 meant for covering the losses incurred as the blighted properties are sold cheap.
The State Street home, which stands only a block from the Missouri State Penitentiary and across the street from the Christopher S. Bond U.S. Courthouse, will be refurbished into a two-bedroom house by fall 2020.
JCHA Executive Director Cynthia Quetsch said another deal is close with a potential developer of 103 Jackson St. and that the sales of 101 and 105 Capitol Ave. are also in the works.
