Flooding still a concern in areas

Some areas in Missouri, including Cooper’s Landing and the Jefferson City area could see flooding.

Boone County Public works closed the road near Cooper’s Landing at 6:40 a.m. Saturday because of flooding.

The Missouri River is rising as a result of rain in the area earlier and the heavy snowfall the state has seen this winter.

To see areas with flooding of all levels, look at the National Weather Service’s interactive map.

The flooding could close some areas or make them impossible to reach.

The height of the river at Jefferson City is set to peak at 26.1 feet. River banks begin to overflow at 20. At around 23.5 feet, Smith Hatchery south of Cooper’s Landing closes and Providence Landing cannot be reached. At 24.5 feet, the Katy Trail near Rocheport begins to flood.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is working with Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa to prepare for detour plans in anticipation of road closures and flooding.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is preparing additional equipment and has water rescue personnel on standby.

Gov. Mike Parson has been working with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency to monitor the latest information on the flooding.

Good briefing with @MoSEMA_ my emergency management team on rising floodwaters. Missouri River expected to rise another 1.5 feet this weekend due to a Nebraska dam breach. Levees will be stressed & more roads will close. Follow local forecasts. Never drive on flood-covered roads. pic.twitter.com/dQ12a4RlQ0
