Battle football coach expected to leave for Hallsville

Justin Conyers is leaving his post at Battle High School, and he’s expected to become the next football coach at Hallsville High School.

Conyers coached the Spartans to a 54-20 record since the program began in 2013. He led Battle to five straight district championships. The Spartans won their first state title back in 2014.

This past year, Battle had another strong season – finishing 8-5. The Spartans lost to Fort Osage in the Class 5 state semifinals.

Hallsville finished with a 3-7 record last season, including a first round loss in the Class 2 state playoffs.

Hallsville has not formally announced its decision to hire Conyers. The school is expected to make it official after its Board of Education meeting on Monday night.

Conyers will replace Ty Harrison, who has coached the Indians for the past five seasons.
