Showers continue to build across the area, becoming more numerous overnight

THIS AFTERNOON: Surface dry air continues to inhibit any steady rain early on this afternoon, but some sprinkles can be expected through 4 pm. There will be a lull in the precip through the evening commute while we’re continuing to follow rain redeveloping overnight as a warm front lifts northward. It’s a cool and raw afternoon as we continue to climb out of the low 40s.

TONIGHT: Round two of showers arrives after 6pm and will last through midnight. Some elevated instability will lead to the chance at a few rumbles of thunder overnight. No severe storms are expected. We dry out after midnight before the main cold front arrives Wednesday. Temperatures will remain steady in the upper 40s overnight following the passage of our cold front.

EXTENDED: A strong, deepening low-pressure system will approach the area Wednesday and winds will increase from the southeast through the day between 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts upwards of 40-50 mph, especially after 3pm. A powerful cold front swings through just after lunch time packing with it strong wind gusts and thunderstorms. Winds will then increase after frontal passage. The winds look to last through the night Wednesday across much of Thursday as well. This is a long duration wind-event, some isolated damage is possible, especially following the soaking rains. A few showers are also possible Thursday with temperatures in the 50s. This system that will be affecting the weather for the better part of 3 days finally moves out by Friday, dropping temperatures back into the low to middle 40s. That quiet weather sticks around into the upcoming weekend with warming temperatures by Sunday, reaching the lower 50s for St. Patrick’s Day.
