Remains found in Callaway County identified
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said human remains found last month in a wooded area west of Fulton belonged to a 39-year-old man.
The medical examiner’s office identified the body as that of Loy Peters, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Foul play is not suspected in his death.
Peters’ remains were found Feb. 24 off County Road 311. The sheriff’s office said the remains were severely decomposed, requiring more time to identify the person.
Officials have been in touch with Peters’ family throughout the investigation, the sheriff’s office said, because investigators believed the remains likely belonged to Peters. The office said it would release no other information out of respect for the family.
