Six shots heard calls on Bodie Drive this year
Officers have been called to Bodie Drive for shots heard six times this year, compared to three shots heard and one shots fired call in total last year, according to the Columbia Police Department dispatch records.
Second Ward Councilman Mike Trapp said the area was making progress through building relationships and using prevention techniques.
“Then it got away from us,” he said. “There was a notable shooting in town and repercussions from that.”
He said the city has community organizers to help solve disputes.
“If I have a beef with you, I’ll take you to court or sue you,” he said. “If you’re engaged with illegal activity and don’t feel a part of the system, then people take the law in their own hands.”
He said he’s hopeful more dedication towards community policing will help.
“We can do things that are going to lead to making arrests and lead to bringing peace to communities,” Trapp said.
The community outreach unit, working in the area Bodie Drive is located, will give an update during a neighborhood meeting at Derby Ridge Elementary School this Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
