After 100+ hours of at or below freezing temps to kick off March, We finally break out of the icebox

THIS AFTERNOON: Skies remain partly cloudy early on this afternoon, but we’re going to be tracking changeable skies through the evening. Clouds will gradually build in through the evening leading to a mostly cloudy sky after sunset. Temperatures in the mid-30s will feel mild after the cold spell we’ve been dealing with.

TONIGHT: Clouds will continue to build overnight ahead of an upper-level wave that will bring us rain and snow chances by early morning. The best chance lies along and north of Interstate 70. Most areas stay dry through the night, as temperatures fall back into the mid-20s. Light southwesterly winds calm through the night, not creating for much of a wind chill.

EXTENDED: Late Thursday morning rain and snow chances arrive, but will be light and spotty. North of I-70, we see a slight snow chance, the best chance of light accumulation is in the far northeast portion of the state. We’re not expecting accumulation as temperatures will be marginal. As you head south snow makes the changeover to rain. With the system pushing east some leftover moisture is possible in the wake of it. We may see patchy drizzle Thursday night and into Friday morning. As temperatures drop towards freezing through the night we could see some slick spots on the roadways for the Friday morning commute. We dry out for Friday before our next system ejects out of the Rockies. This storm will kick out into the central plains early Saturday advecting in deep Gulf of Mexico warmth and moisture. This unstable air will be followed by a fast-moving cold front moving through the area Saturday afternoon. Widespread rain and thunderstorms are possible with temperatures close to 60 Saturday. The preliminary severe threat is limited at the moment, but there’s a chance that could increase. Behind Saturday’s storms temperatures cool into the mid-40s with a dry start to next week.
