Dangerously cold temperatures in place in Mid-Missouri

MONDAY: The cold will be tough to kick out this afternoon. Even under plenty of sunshine, we will struggle to climb through the 10s during the day. Wind chills will remain below zero through noon. Highs will reach the mid to upper teens by the afternoon hours as winds slowly relax as we head into the evening.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear skies will continue into tonight, so we’ll see temperatures tumble into the single digits once again. Winds out of the west up to 10 mph will create below zero wind chills again so cover any and all exposed skin.

EXTENDED: Winds will increase Tuesday as high pressure slides to our south. We can expect another bitterly cold morning and day with temperatures in the mid 20s. We’ll be waking up to winds chills below zero on Tuesday as well. With the jet stream retreating to the north, under zonal flow we are going to see a warming trend through the work week. By Wednesday highs are back above freezing, with temperatures near 40 on Thursday. Our next chance at precipitation arrives on Thursday. Late Thursday morning rain and snow chance arrives with an upper level disturbance moving through the area. North of I-70, we see a slight snow chance, but accumulation would be light. As you head south snow makes the changeover to snow. We will dry it out Friday, before our next low pressure system brings us chances of widespread showers on Saturday with highs near 50.
