Two arrested during Boone County welfare check

Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two people during a welfare check Friday afternoon in Harrisburg.

Johnna Vargas, 30, and Gilberto Hurtado, 32, were arrested for first degree drug tafficking, four counts endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful use of a weapon among other charges. The release said Hurtado is a three-time convicted felon and also faces charges of unlawful posession of a weapon.

According to a news release, deputies went to the 1200 block of Bethlehem Road around 3:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check of several small children. Upon arrival, deputies found various narcotics, marijuana and over 75 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies also found drug delivery devices and a handgun, the release said.

Bond amounts haven’t been set.
