Police arrest third person in connection with Aspen Heights home invasion
Police arrested another Columbia man in connection with a home invasion at Aspen Heights.
Police said Jaylen James, 20, was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of robbery and burglary and for an outstanding warrant.
Two people allegedly burglarized a home on Jan. 28 in the 3500 block of Aspen Heights Parkway. Investigators learned that two people entered the home, woke up the residents and demanded money and drugs.
The victims were held at gunpoint, according to a probable cause statement. Court documents said two suspects stole $5,000, a PlayStation 4 and a controller before leaving the scene.
The victims told police they believed James may have planned the robbery because of a previous incident in which James accidently shot one of the victims at the home where they lived in December. All of the participants involved in that incident falsified their statements to police so that James would not be arrested, court documents said.
Police arrested David Galentine, 18, and Jamieon D. Parker, 21, in connection with the home invasion at Aspen Heights after serving a search warrant on Eastwood Drive and found evidence from the robbery, including the PlayStation and guns.
Parker and Galentine told investigators James helped plan the robbery and that James received part of the money that was stolen, according to the probable cause statement.
Court documents said James is considered a flight risk because he has a fugitive warrant from Cook County, Illinois, for assault.
