Seasonal day Friday, but Winter lurks around the corner

TONIGHT: Our weather will calm down heading into tonight. Partly cloudy skies will allow temperatures to cool back into the lower 20s. Winds will be calm tonight as high pressure settles in.

FRIDAY: Slightly warmer weather is in store for us closing out the work week. Winds will turn out of the south as high pressure slides off to our east. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day as temperatures make it to the low to mid 40s in the afternoon.

EXTENDED: After a brief warm up, a weak cold front will moves through Friday night. Winds will turn out of the north, keeping our temperatures from warming too much Saturday, as we only make it into the middle 30s. Winter weather looks like it makes its return Saturday night into Sunday. Behind this initial front, an upper-level disturbance will moves through, increasing snow chances into Sunday morning. At this time, this looks like an all snow event for the viewing area, with accumulations expected. It looks like the heaviest amounts look to be south of I-70, but it looks like all of Mid-Missouri will see some snow. Preliminary amounts look to be in the 2-4″ range as of now, but there are still details to finalize. One detail we are almost certain about is it will get dangerously cold behind this system. Lows will plummet to near zero Sunday night, and with this system bring some breezy conditions, wind chills look to bottom out around 15 to 20 degrees below zero. After that brutal of a start, highs on Monday will struggle to get out of the teens in the afternoon. We start to climb out of the cold toward the middle of next week, getting back to freezing by Wednesday. Check back on air and online for the latest ABC 17 Stormtrack forecast.
