Burglars tunneled through walls in Peachtree break-ins

Business owners on Peachtree Drive in Columbia say burglars broke into their establishments over the weekend by tunneling through the walls.

French Laundry manager Rebecca Luyett said burglars started at the back of their building and tunneled into the fitting room. From there, they made it to other parts of the building before tunneling into The Trove Salon next door, Luyett said.

Luyett said despite tunneling into the office of The French Laundry, the burglars did not steal the owner’s laptop. They only took money from the cash register.

From The Trove Salon, burglars tunneled into 44 Stone Public House. According to a Facebook post from the restaurant, the burglars did not take anything.

Luyett said the owners of 44 Stone got footage of the burglars, who might have left some of their belongings behind. The Columbia Police Department said investigators are looking for two people who burglarized four businesses total. In addition to 44 Stone, The Trove and The French Laundry and Alteration the burglars also hit The Axe House, the police department said in a news release.

Police released a surveillance image Monday afternoon of one of the buglars and asked that anyone with information about the break-ins call 573-874-7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-8477 to remain anonymous.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The story has been corrected to say burglars hit four businesses instead of five.
