Prosecutors file charges in deadly Columbia crash
A Columbia man faces a murder charge for a deadly crash last Saturday.
Lukas S. Evans, 20, faces charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident. Evans collided with Jordan Hoyt, 37, on Feb. 16 on West Boulevard.
A probable cause statement said Evans admitted that he was involved with a crash just prior to hitting Hoyt on Stadium Boulevard. Columbia police estimated the damage of the first crash at more than $4,300, making his leaving the scene of that accident a felony.
Police said Evans passed a car on West Boulevard in a “no-pass zone” before hitting Hoyt head-on. The probable cause statement said Hoyt was “unable to avoid Evans’ vehicle.”
A judge set his bond at $1 million cash-only.
Evans was not in the Boone County Jail on Friday.
