University of Missouri leaders lobby state lawmakers for TPMC funding

Leaders from all four University of Missouri campuses gathered at the state Capitol Thursday to demonstrate the value of the university to the state.

Faculty, staff and students spoke to lawmakers about specific projects within the UM system that are aimed at tackling some of the state’s problems. Some topics included the opioid crisis, precision health initiatives and small business growth.

A new legislative caucus was also formed with the goal of advocating support the university.

UM system president Mun Choi told ABC 17 News that a key priority this session is to secure funding for the planned Translational Precision Medicine Complex.

UM Board of Curators Chairman Jon Sundvold was also at the Capitol working to garner legislative support for the TPMC project.

State Rep. Kip Kendrick supports the medical complex project and said he hopes to bolster financial support for it during the house budget process.
