Winter weather takes toll on road crews’ equipment

The Cole County Public Works Department and Jefferson City Public Works Department said they would have crews prepared to work through the night on Tuesday.

Both departments said ice is the main concern overnight into Wednesday morning. Crews were out treating slick spots Tuesday.

Cole County Public Works said several recent winter weather events have taken a toll on equipment. The county is currently down a truck due to motor issues, but the department said it has a backup on standby.

Jefferson City Public Works said it has all of its trucks, but a few of them were in the shop earlier Tuesday.

“It’s definitely one of the harder winters for our equipment,” Operations Division Director Britt Smith said. “But, we are blessed to have such great mechanics that seem to be able to keep it all together.”
