Police: Alcohol, speed were factors in fatal Columbia crash

A woman killed in a Columbia crash in September was speeding and had been drinking earlier that night, according to a police report on the crash.

Perri Jones, 21, died early Sept. 23 when she drove off the road, down an embankment and rolled her car while driving in the 2200 block of Old Highway 63 South. Jones and her passenger, Destiny Hardin, 18, were not wearing seat belts but Hardin suffered only minor injuries. Jones was declared dead at the scene.

The Columbia Police Department provided ABC 17 News with the full crash report Monday after an open records request. The report shows police believe Jones had been drinking before the crash based on information they got from Hardin. The two had been at the Fieldhouse bar in downtown Columbia before the crash, Hardin told police.

Hardin told police she warned Jones to slow down before the crash.
