Police release name of victim in deadly west Columbia crash
UPDATE, 9:10 p.m.: Columbia police have released the name of the woman who was killed in Saturday afternoon’s crash.
Police said Jordan Hoyt, 37, was killed when Lukas Evans, 20, crossed into her lane on West Boulevard near Prospect Street shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Evans had been involved in a crash at Stadium Blvd. and West Blvd. He left the scene and was driving north on West. Evans crossed over from the northbound lane into the southbound lane in an attempt to pass the person in front of him in a no passing zone.
He collided head-on with Hoyt. SHe was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE, 4:20 p.m.: Officials said one person is dead after a head-on collision.
Police said the driver was in the wrong lane.
The Columbia Police Department is investigating whether alcohol was involved in the crash.
UPDATE: Emergency crews said two people had to be taken to the hospital and one is in life-threatening condition.
ABC 17 News crews said the crash happened on West Blvd. between Prospect Street and Rollins Road.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Columbia Fire Department is working a vehicle crash near Stadium and West Boulevards.
According to a tweet by the department, it requires an extrication.
