LIVE BLOG: Highway patrol responds to scores of crashes

First responders in mid-Missouri responded to several crashes Friday as roads became snow covered. Drivers should check the Missouri Department of Transportation traveler map for updates on road conditions.

9:30 p.m.

Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to more than 300 calls for service in an eleven-hour span on Friday. Troop F said troopers responded to 110 crashes, 18 injuries and no fatalities. Troopers also responded to 140 stranded drivers.

6:20 p.m.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says Highway 87 in Miller County is closed north of Eldon because of a jackknifed tractor-trailer and Route C south of Brumley was closed because of a tractor-trailer crash.

It was unclear when the roads would reopen.

6:05 p.m.

Boone County Joint Communications warned drivers that one lane of Highway 124 near Route U is closed because of a crash.

5:25 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop F, which covers much of mid-Missouri, reported 272 calls for service between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.

The calls included 110 stranded motorists and 81 crashes with 18 injuries.

4:08 p.m.

One lane of Highway 54 is now open in Miller County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted.

4 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted that troopers have answered 569 calls since 9 a.m. including 166 stranded motorists and 125 traffic crashes.

Since 9:00 am, Troopers have responded to the following:

19 injuries
1 fatality

3:35 p.m.

Boone County Emergency Management said there are crashes in the westbound and eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Lake of the Woods Exit.

The MoDOT traveler information map said delays were likely for about an hour.

3:30 p.m.

The city of Columbia says it will start enforcing its priority route towing and ticketing policy at 4 p.m.

As of about 3 p.m. 1.5 inches of snow had fallen in Columbia, 1.8 inches had fallen in Jefferson City and 2.5 inches had fallen in Camdenton.

3:19 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted that Interstate 70 westbound is closed at the 28 and 58 mile markers in western Missouri were closed. Both crashes are in Lafayette County.

Highway 54 remained closed near Eugene.

MoDOT’s traveler information map indicated the I-70 closures would last several hours.
