Police observe shooting in northeast Columbia
Four people were arrested in separate two incidents Wednesday that brought a large police response to a residential area of northeast Columbia.
Police were in the Rice Road area Wednesday afternoon looking for a man who ran from a traffic stop, which prompted a foot chase involving eight to 10 officers, Columbia Police Department Lt. Lance Bolinger said.
Police took the man into custody and were searching for evidence when they observed shots fired at Boyd Lane and Rice Road.
Police found the target of the shots, who provided them with a suspect and vehicle description, Bolinger said, and officers then found the vehicle nearby with three people inside. Officers also found a gun in the vehicle, he said. No one was hit by the shots.
The two incidents were not related, Bolinger said.
The incidents led police to temporarily close Rice at Boyd.
The Boone County Office of Emergency Management warned of the closure in alerts sent via text messages on posted on social media. The messages said Rice Road was closed at Boyd Lane for a police incident but did not specify why.
