More ice possible by AM Monday, slick AM commute for some areas

Rain will move in from the south overnight from late evening in the Ozarks, slowly moving north through early Monday morning. Temperatures will be above freezing south of HWY 50 but are likely hover closer to the freezing mark near I-70 where freezing rain is possible. The moisture will start in the Ozarks closer to 9 PM and advance north to I-70 after midnight then to HWY 36 near daybreak.

Although the rain is expected to be very light and somewhat spotty at first, it’s possible that a glaze of ice could form before daybreak. Also, temperatures will be very close or just above freezing near I-70 which could limit ice accumulation. However, rain will become more widespread through mid-morning, mixing with sleet closer to HWY 24 with some snow developing from HWY 36 north into northern Missouri. Ice and minor snow accumulation is most likely north of I-70 where temperatures are more likely to stay at or below freezing.

Temperatures will warm to above freezing up to HWY24 by late morning and road conditions will improve. However, areas north of HWY 24 will remain near freezing through the day and freezing rain, sleet and snow will continue, making for slick travel.

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for areas near and north of I-70. Travelers are urged to check the latest conditions before heading out Monday, especially those heading north. You can check the MoDOT Traveler Map .
